Korean American Resource & Cultural Center
KRCC’s programs target the most vulnerable members of the Korean American community including the low-income, recent immigrant, limited English proficient, undocumented, youth, seniors and women. According to the 2010 Census, Korean Americans are the 5th largest immigrant group in Illinois and the 7th largest in the United States. Contrary to the “model minority” myth, statistics illuminate the reality of this under-served community.
65% of Korean Americans are recent immigrants who speak English as a second language, which severely limits their access to and participation in American economic, social, educational and political institutions. 25% of Korean Americans living in greater Chicago are low-income, and 12% subsist below poverty level. In addition, according to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 18% or about 1 in 6 members of the Korean American community is undocumented.
MISSION
KRCC’s mission is to empower the Korean American and multi-ethnic youth communities of greater Chicago through education, social services, organizing & advocacy, and culture towards social, economic and racial equality.
